
In the motorcycle world, ‘type’ means the main purpose a bike is built for. Some bikes are made for speed on the track, others for long trips on the highway, some for daily city riding, others for off-road trails, and some just for comfortable cruising.
Here are the most common main types of motorcycles today.
1. Naked
They feature a neutral riding position (feet below you, hands at a comfortable reach) and an upright seating posture. They are called "naked" because they lack the large plastic fairings found on sportbikes.
· Best For: Beginners, commuting, and general riding.
2. Cruiser
They are characterized by a low seat height, feet-forward foot pegs, and hands positioned high or far back. They usually have a relaxed, V-Twin engine and a heavy, stylish look.
· Best For: Laid-back cruising, highway touring, and customizing.
3. Sportbike
These bikes are built for aerodynamics and cornering. They feature full bodywork (fairings), a low, aggressive riding position with rear-set foot pegs (making you lean forward), and high-revving engines.
· Best For: Canyon carving, track days, and spirited riding.
4. Touring
Large, heavy bikes with massive engines, comfortable seats, and large fairings for wind protection. They almost always come stock with hard saddlebags, large windshields, and advanced infotainment systems.
· Best For: Cross-country road trips.
5. Adventure (ADV)
These are the SUVs of the motorcycle world, designed to be ridden on paved roads and dirt/gravel trails. They are big bikes with large fuel tanks, tall windshields, and long-travel suspension, capable of crossing continents.
· Best For: Riders who want to explore backroads and go off-road.
6. Dirt Bikes/ Enduro
· Best For: Motocross, trail riding, and enduro racing.
7. Scooter
Characterized by a step-through chassis and a flat floor for your feet. They usually have small-displacement, automatic transmissions, and often feature storage space under the seat.
· Best For: Short-distance city commuting and errands.
8. Classic/Café Racer
Traditional, old-school design inspired by motorcycles from the 1960s–1980s. round headlights, Upright, comfortable riding position

9. CUB (Commercial Utility Bike)
A Cub is a small, lightweight motorcycle with a step-through frame and semi-auto transmission, small engine 50cc to 125cc.
